After an early start leaving from Curtin Springs we made it to Ayers Rock Resort & we stayed in the campground there. The resort is like a little accomodation town with all different sorts of accom. It has an info centre where you can book tours & helicopter flights etc, a few gift shops, clothes shops, supermarket, post office, ANZ bank and a hairdressers! There is a shell servo here too. Its the only place you can stay near Uluru. You can't camp in the national park.
So after getting set up at our site & having a late breaky/early lunch, we headed to the base of Uluru where people can climb up. We decided from the moment we got there that none of the kids were going up. Its a massively challenging climb & there are warning signs everywhere. To get yourself up, let alone trying to get the kids up would be a huge effort. So, in trying to decide if Trent or I would go individually or not we checked out the base. I decided that I wasn't going to do it. I have children to bring up & to complete a holiday with! Trent walked up a little further than I, but was still not sure. We still had the next day to do it if we wanted. I guess for me it was something I should have done before I had kids, but in saying that if we had someone here to look after them & Trent & I could have gone together I would have done it!
Here are a few pics from that moment.
This next one is from where I walked up to. Can't imagine what the view would be like from the top!
After deciding that we weren't going to do it that day we took a few walks and a drive right around Uluru. The kids were pretty good with the walking, Pheobe never complained once, Maurice was the biggest complainer with Felicity to follow!
And then around the other side we did a few more walks.
Then a bit further round we took some more pics.
After having a great afternoon looking around, we got some supplies & went back out to do the Sunset viewing. Its rather beautiful, but I think on a warmer day it would be even more colourful. These are just a few of what we took.
And those were just a few of what ended an awsome day.
Today was a little bit of a sleep in & a slower start to the day. Trent had decided overnight that he would do the climb. We got organised & headed out, Trent all pumped to do it & this is what we found:
What a bugger, but we took it as a sign that we weren't meant to do it! They actually don't like you doing it either. Anyway, we can't hang around waiting for a good weather day to be able to do it, so it was time to check somethig else out.
We drove out to Kata Tjuta (the Olgers). They are also very impressive. We decided to do another walk, this one was a little more ruggered than any of te others & perhaps a little more interesting for the kids so we didn't have any complaininf on this one. Flick at the age of 3 did an amazinf job.
The kids all fairly happy with themselves that they had just completed another walk!
There are so many great tracks that you can do around here but with kids on board we have only done a selected few. Perhaps one day Trent & I will come back when the kids are grown up & hopfully be still young enough to do them!
The rest of our afternoon was spent doing some souvenir shopping for the kids, some washing & playing at the park! Trent cooked another roast while I showered the kids before we had dinner tonight. And now we are almost all packed up & ready to take off again in the morning. One last thing that we might do is a sunrise viewing, shall post a few pics if we do.
Its been a wonderful time had by all of us here & we are looking forward to many more exciting places ahead.
