Have made it to Tennant Creek

Hi all!
Well it was yet another pretty long day of travelling. We left Alice Springs just after 8am & got into Tennant Creek just after 3pm. It was about 515kms that we did.
We saw many dead animals along this stretch of the road, but it provided for some awsome viewings of other live animals having a feed! The eagles that we saw were as big as Felicity & you know how they have the white ruffeled feathers around their necks? These were so prominate, so much better than in any picture. Every time that we tried to get a pic we were too slow & they flew away before we could get one! Sorry!
Pheobe had a great time completing about 5 days worth of homework whilst we were driving today. It filled in the time for her, so the journey went a little quicker. Maurice & Felicity had their ipods to keep them amused. Phe did have a couple of breaks with the ipod too!

We had our first stop at Aileron Station, you will see why we stopped after seeing these from the highway!

After here we grabbed some fruit & nuts to snack on to keep us going. We even managed to get Trent to listen to some Lee Kernaghan to break up the long drive! Our next stop for a bite to eat was at Barrow Creek Station. Here are a couple of the pics we took.

Our next stop along the way was a the Devils Marbles. These are pretty amazing how they have formed. And its even more strange that you are driving along & then these are just there standing out at you! We stopped & took a walk around.

Rather cool how this rock is just sitting on the other one under it. Trent and I both said we would love to be around when it crashes down or oven when one of the others splits in two!

And finally our destination of Tennant Creek was reached. We checked into the  caravan park & then went for a look around. We went up to the barkly hill mine & info centre. We have now found out that Tennant Creek was a gold mining town in its day. We are not exactly sure what keeps it ticking today, but there is obviously something. We drove around the streets, there is a small supermarket, a police station, a hospital, a few different service stations, a school, a few churches, and a long street of different shops. There was one good clothing shop that we went into & checked out. Wrangler & Thomas Cook to name a few brands! There are LoTS of Aboriginal people up here. Pheobe asked me why they didn't wear shoes. I couldn't give her an answer that I knew was why but what I did tell her was that back in the okd days there was no money for shoes & perhaps they didn't have enough money & that she should be greatful for all that she has! Oh, there was a couple of hotels here too. We did get a quick shot of the Tennant Creek Hotel.

A quick & easy BBQ was had for dinner tonight. Pheobe helped Trent cook it. We even ate outside tonight! Showers & bedtime after face timing Poppy to wish him a Happy Birthday! Hope you had a good day Poppy? The kids were very pleased to be able to speak with you tonight. Oh, one thing that happened today, Pheobe lost yet another tooth! So now the fairy has to come tonight in the Outback! We will be up early again tomorrow with another long drive ahead. Take care everyone! xo
