From Port Augusta to Roxby Downs

We said our final good-bye's to Nannie & Papa this morning. They headed south & we headed north. It was so lovely to have such a nice time with them.
Papa & Nannie, Pheobe, Maurice & Flick.

It was a good drive up the highway, lots of things to see. Emu's & Sheep were the most common animals. There was lots of dense scrub to start with along each side of the road & then it became quite sparse, more like what we had expected in the begining. After about 2hours of driving we had a stop at a rest area to stretch all our legs. We took these photos whilst there & then the started so it was back into the car & on our way!

This was taken as we got back into the car & on the road again.

The next stop was at Pimba to get a top up of fuel. As we left the fuel station we were stopped at a railway crossing & had to wait for 75 carriages to go by! At this stage of the trip the rain was getting worse & we were being treated to a pretty good lightning show in the sky as we drove along.

Our next port of call was Woomera. This was the first pic we took entering the town.

So by now you can see the rocket. Woomera was chosen by Great Britain years ago to become their testing area for rockets they were developing for war use. We went to the heritage display at the info centre & it went right through the history of how Woomera developed because of the rockets. It is also a town for the RAAF. And of course most of you will know that there was the Woomera detention centre, which is now shut down. Here are a few of the photos we took whilst there.

As you can tell from Maurice's face, he loved checking out the rockets!

Some really interesting stuff we thought & now we know all about the town!
Whilst there we had some lunch & we also ran into Maurice's old kinder mate Milly! Milly was there with her Mum, sister  Chelsea, brother Flynn & her cousin Bailey. Its amazing that you can travel this far & meet up with People you know. Milly moved with her family to Roxby Downs about 7months ago now, so Maurice was soooo excited to be able to catch up with her.

Once at Roxby, we went to Milly's place so all the kids could have a catch up & play. Milly's mum Crystal even took care of our kids so they could play longer while Trent & I checked in at the Caravan Park. When we went back to pick them all up none of them wanted to leave, so we have now made plans to catch up tomorrow night for dinner & another play!

Back at the Caravan Park & the lightening & some thunder has kept going. We had some veggies steak & snags for dinner, done some washing & had showers. Now everyone is sleeping peacefully & im writing this post whilst watching ABC24, its about the only channel we can get here! Oh well, plenty to keep us busy tomorrow.
Until next time, stay well everyone. xo
