Our time in Port Augusta

Well, we drove into Port Augusta not really knowing what to expect, but did have some kind of thinking that it would be a really 'pretty' town. We were wrong! Not saying its a bad place but it is, as Mr Flinders who discovered the place said, a place to which you will not need to return! It is the crossroads town where you either go north, west, east or south. Its more of an industrial sort of town with a Power Station, which I think from memory supplies 30% of SA's power.

When we arrived we headed straight to the info centre, it was huge & the staff were very helpful. Told us a few things we could do, caravan parks to stay etc... We stayed at the Shoreline Caravan Park as the other one was on the highway. Once set up, we did some sight seeing at the Water Tower lookout & then some groceries.

The next few pics are all the views from the top of the water tower & they give a fairly good idea of what the town looks like.

The next 3 or so shots are of the Flinders Ranges - Very beautiful!

This is the Water Tower that we climed 4 flights of stairs to get those photos.

Thursday was what we like to call a 'down day'. Its a day where we catch up on lots of things, washing, cleaning & just general sorting ourselves out. We spent time at the laundry mat, organised a new tyre to have as an extra spare in case as we travel north. We decided to treat the kids to Maccas for lunch & came back to the caravan to eat. It was a nice warm winters day here, so being outside was lovely. As we finished our lunch we heard the roar of a car that we have heard before. A Super suprise for the kids - Nannie & Papa had arrived for a visit!! The kids were Sooooo excited! Nannie & Papa had come up from the York Peninsula where they have been travelling. We spent the afternoon catching up, Trent checking out how their new caravan was holding up! Then we took a drive around town & even went out for dinner. It was so lovely to see them.

One Very excited Miss Felicity to have Nannie & Papa here to play!

And finally today, Friday. We were all up quite early, we had a boat cruise to get to. The weather wasn't all that wonderful, very overcast & raining, but it made for a good journey. The cruise we took was up the Spencer Gulf. Aaron the owner of the boat & our tour guide was really informative & was great with the kids too! We learn't more about the ecosystems around the area, some more history about Port Augusta & the best part of all was seeing the dolphins! We had a great 2 hours!

This afternoon we decided to all go out to the Royal Flying Doctors Service base here in Port Augusta. It was fairly interesting & informative. Def a service worthy of every $ they get. And a service I hope me, my family & my friends don't ever have to use! But if they do need, these guys are the best & you would want them on your side!

The rest of the afternoon was spent preparing for our trip north & also preparing & eating an awsome roast lamb with scollop potatoes & vegies! And thanks to Nannie we even had pav for sweets!!!

This is what our site looked like this afternoon.

So tomorrow we will say our good-byes to Nannie & Papa & head north. Can't wait to find that warmer weather! But will be sad to say good-bye to them. Thanks Nannie & Papa for a great couple of days, its been lots of fun!
