Hope you are all keeping warm, have been in touch with a few of you over the past couple of days & by all accounts we should stay on holidays! Or, we should at least bring the sunshine home with us.
Anyway, have spent 3 great nights in the Shark Bay world heritage area. We spent one night at Denham after driving there from Carnarvon & then the past 2 nights have been at Monkey Mia.
Once you turn off the highway into the Shark Bay Heritage Area there are a few turn offs into other areas but the ones we could do with the caravan were Shell Beach:
Denham is a really pretty little seaside town, it would be on my recommended visit list. There isn't heaps to do there but if you want to just be near the sea & relax, this is the little town to do it in. Lots of fishing to be done here, we were shown a squid that a man had caught off the little jetty we walked out on in the main street of town. The kids thought this was good. They had a play at the park too. We went into the visitor centre & got some more info on shark bay too.
Tuesday came and after breaky and getting packed up we headed back out of town about 8kms. We went to the Ocean Aquarium. This place is run by marine biologists & it houses a fair variety of the marine life that one would find in Shark Bay. We spent a good hour and a half here being taken from each tank or pond by the biologists & having each species explained to us. They even had a shark pond where they fed the sharks! It was really good & I think we all took something out of it. The kids asked questions & they were answered & so were ours. It was worth going back to thats for sure.
I can't put every pic we took in the blog but this gives you a really good idea of the variety of things we saw.
After there we made our way to Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort. We checked in, spoke to GD!, had some lunch & then went for a walk & a look around the resort. Pheobe found herself a comfy chair or two!
We also went & watched some dolphins playing in the water from off the jetty!
We went into the dolphin info centre & found out heaps of things about what makes Money Mia so special & all about the dolphins that come to be hand fed.
We went into the shop/supermarket to see what they had - everything of course!
We then went for a stroll along the beach on the way back to the van.
Trent told Maurice & Pheobe these Pelicans were fake & so the kids went up quite close to them & when one stood up & the other one opened its beak & made a noise, they got the biggest fright & ran as far away from them as they could & then yelled at Trent for telling them they were fake! It was Very funny!
We went out for dinner at the restaurant & it was very delicious! We all enjoyed what we had & this is our view:
Today we got up reasonably early & had a piece of fruit or youghurt & then headed down to the beach for the dolphin feeding. It was lots of fun & I was lucky enough to be chosen to feed a dolphin & was able to have Pheobe with me. We actually ended up getting to do it twice because the first time we did it before the dolphin could swallow the fish a pelican came up & took the fish out of its mouth & ate it! So, at the second feed because Pheobe got a little up set at what happened the first time we got to do it again! So lucky!
The first time
Pheobes hand so close
The second time
It was real good fun & so excited to be able to have done it.
Maurice found his mate just after we finished feeding the dolphins.
We went for a walk to the other part of the beach we hadn't been to yet & found these guys cruising around too:
After we had spent some time lying in the sun we came back to the van & the kids got their bathers on & we took them to the pool. It was lovely to speak with Kylie while I was on the deck chair in the sun watching the kids in the pool! Trent was there too of course but it was much too cold for us to get in.
When they had finished swimming we came back to the van for some lunch & then some rest/sleep time. Later in the afternoon we had showers & we also spoke to Nannie & Papa & even had a chat to Brooke! The kids had a play with a few other kids that are all camped next to us. We went out for dinner again tonight, budget blown completely! This time is was to the Monkey Bar. Very casual dinning, kids had Pizza, I had a chicken burger & Trent had BBQ ribs. Back to the van for ice cream & then it was the teeth, toilet routine before bed!
So tomorrow we are heading further south aiming for about Kalbarri. The weather forecast is for about 21-22 degrees so I hope it is sunny & not windy! Not sure how we are going to cope when we get back. We are back in our semi winter PJs at night now, don't like it at all! Maurice has even asked to wear socks & shoes!
Anyway, take care everyone & it won't be too long now until we get to catch up & tell you more about our adventures in person.
