Have just had 2 VERY windy days & nights here in Geraldton. It is a nice town with a waterfront, beaches near by and a port. We did manage to get out a little & have a look around but with the wind the way it was, it made it very annoying & not as nice as it could have been.
It was about a 3 hour drive down from Kalbarri, lots of scenery to look at which was a nice change. We checked into the Sunset Beach Caravan Park. The kids went & played in the playground while we unhooked. It was then that Trent noticed one of the tyres on the caravan needed replacing & we also needed to get a new jockey wheel. Trent changed the tyre & then we went looking for a new jockey wheel.
Geraldton is one of those towns that after lunch on a Saturday it seems to close down. So, we got one from BCF & we also went to Bunnings for some bolts to fix the jack that we had been using. After that we went & had some lunch & then took a drive around town to see what it was all about. We drove past a car wash so we treated the car to a wash as well! While Trent & Maurice were doing that, the girls & I went for a walk & had a look at a few shops. We went into the Goodguys & sat in massage chairs - it was quite fun & now we want one!
Anyway, we spent the rest of the arvo at the caravan park, cleaning out the van, Washing windows & the kids had the play room to themselves. The room was right next to our site so it was great for us! Dinner was had & then I took the kids with me to the shower block & gave them a Bath! They were so excited to be able to have a bath, haven't had one since Sam & Brads house back in July!
We woke up a bit through the night listening to the winds go crazy. We also had some quick heavy showers of rain too! Not what we wanted but we are thinking that all the great weather has gone now & we just have to suck it up!
In the morning we had to chase our mat & step stool that had been blown away!
We decided to stay for the day so we could go & have a look around a little more & this time take some photos! We also needed to do a little washing so it was a good chance to catch up. We had some breaky, paid for our next night & then went out for the morning.
We first stopped at a beach near by where we were staying & saw some windsurfers. The area is known for its windsurfing. And with the winds we were experiencing no wonder.
From there we went into town & along the waterfront. Its really nice along there but if the weather had been better it would be a very lovely place to be. We did let the kids have a play at the park before it started to rain, so that kept them happy.
Here are the views from the park!
This second one you can see the port, which is where we drove to next. Didn't take any pic here but what we can tell you is that there is a big fishing industry here, an export terminal for grain & coal just to name a couple.
Next we went to the HMAS Sydney memorial. It was also a lookout spot.
We then drove to Moore Point & checked out the beach & the lighthouse.
There was also a little smaller lighthouse as you come up from the beach that was a shower, the kids though it was pretty cool.
The rest of the day we spent back at the caravan. Oh, we did get a couple of supplies for dinner at the local IGA too. Pheobe did some homework & then they all played in the games room. Trent had a sleep to catch up from not getting any from the night before! I prepared our dinner, cleaned out the kids clothes cupboards & Pheobe & I also went for a walk over to the beach for a look. We had dinner in the camp kitchen tonight. I heated up the lasagne in the oven in there & we had that with some vegies. Then we had mini pavs with whipped cream, chocolate strawberrys & bannanas!
After cleaning up & packing everything away from the wind we had showers. Pheobe decided to have her own bath in the boys shower block while Trent had his shower & I took Maurice & Felicity into the girls shower block with me & they had a bubble bath while I had my shower. Then it was into bed for thr windy night ahead!
Today we are making our way to Perth. Not looking forward to the weather there either but we will make the most of what time we have left before we head for home later on this week. We have been on the road since about 8am & its now just after 1pm. We have had one stop for some lunch & the kids are travelling well. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
