Kununurra

After what had been 2 awsome days at Lake Argyle it was time to pack up & go. We said our good-byes to Evie & her family & then headed off for Kununurra. It took us about an hour or so to get there. We went straight to the Ivenhoe Tourist & Caravan Park, which came recommended. After checking in at the desk we had to wait until 10.30am before we could take the van to our allocated site. We decided to have a quick drive around & get some fuel to fill in the wait time.
Back at the park we got the van in & then it was off to the pool for a dip. Trent actually took the kids while I went & got some fresh rolls & came back to make lunch. After that we got organised & went & waited at the park gate for a bus to pick us up. At 1.30 the bus arrived & took us to the Float Plane on Lake Kununurra. We went on a float plane ride - it was Great!!
We first flew over the irrigation area & crops to the boat ramp at Lake Argyle where we picked up 2 more passangers. Then it was off again up into the air flying over the top of Lake Argyle. Awsome views & what a way to see the lake.
Next we flew over a couple of cattle stations & then it was on to the Bungle Bungles.
Seriously, this is the only way to see them - Spectacular!
The next place we flew over was the Argyle Diamond Mine - that looked great from the air too.
On our way back across the lake we stopped at Mary Durak Island. Here we went for a bit of a walk, had some afternoon tea & chattered to Leigh our pilot. We also saw a few fresh water crocs swimming in the water surrounding the island.
Back into the air & before we landed back at the lake argyle boat ramp, leigh flew the plane closer to the islands so we could get a better view.
After letting the passangers off we were back in the air for our last 15minutes whick took us back over the Mango & Sandlewood crops. 4 hours we were gone from the time the bus picked us ip & brought us back, it was so worth doing. 3 and a half hours of flying time!

These are the main crops growing in the irigation area at Kununurra.

As it was almost dark by the time we got back we made hamburgers for dinner, then cleaned up & showered & got into bed. The kids (& us) were puffed!

Monday has come & gone quite quickly. We went to the info. centre then drove around the town for a look. Called into the Diamond shop for a look (& a dream) at the famous Pink Argyle Diamonds. It was only $250,000.00 for a pair of earings I liked & I hadn't even checked out the rings! Oh well, like I said, one can dream! The lady there did however give all 3 kids a little 'fake' pink diamond to take home which was lovely of her.
After this we came back to the van. I helped Pheobe do some homework, Maurie & Flick played with toys & Trent went through our new bits of info that we had got at the info centre. We had some lunch & the kids watches a bit of TV as it was getting too hot to play outside. Trent & I then sat down together to make. Plan for the next few days. And, because the kids were good while we dis that we went back to the pool for a couple of hours. By about 3.30pm we got out & we went into the shops for a look & did a little grocery shop. Back at the van we unpacked & then gor dinner ready. Chicken & Salad & Vegies for the kids! Ice creams for 4 while I cleaned up & then showers & bed. Everyone is sooo tired, so an early night was due.
