The great northern hwy provided for some lovely scenery to keep us busy. We stopped at the Wurnam-Turkey Creek Roadhouse around 11am for fuel & something to eat. We were sittig on the park bench eating and there seemed to be lots of birds flying around us. Then above us we noticed there were a few falcons flying above us. Trent decided to give the kids and I a free bird show! He managed to throw some food up into the air & they were all coming in & catching it up in the sky! Pretty cool!
After that we were back on the road again, passinf the turn off into the Bungle Bungles & plenty of turn offs to stations & signs for stations. We had to get a picture of this one for a very special girl we know. This one is for you Alice!
It wasn't long before we arrived in Halls Creek. And, with a quick trip to the info centre we were on our way to the only caravan park in town! It was very warm when we gor out of the car so once un hooked & power in the air con was on to cool the van down. After something to eat and a drink we decided to take a drive out along Duncan Road as suggested by the guy at the info centre. We made the decision to look at two places along the road so that we would be back in town before the sun went down. Duncan Road is a gravel road & mainly 4WD recommended. It actually runs all the way over the border into the NT.
Anyway, the first place we checked out was Palm Springs. Apparently you can swim here but we decided not too, we value our lives too much! It was a pretty spot & even though we were told fresh water & ok to swim we didn't really like it. Maybe a little too eary for us! Here are some of the pics we took though.
There were plenty of fish in the water here, we had fun watching them swim around.
Next we drove to what is called the China Wall. On the way there we drove through the old Halls Creek town. Gold was discovered here in 1885. Halls Creek is a ?major town for a lot of the mines and stations around the area. Here are the pics we took of the China Wall.
We then got back to the van & had a chat to the couple that had pulled in next to is & got some dinner cooked. Steak & Vegies tonight. We cleaned up & then headed over to where the Royal Australian Peddlers were putting on a show. We had brought raffle tickets earlier so we needed to go in case we won! The entertainment was great, a man playing his 12string guitar & singing a few bush songs along with a few other well known songs. Phe got to draw the ticket out of the hat, it wasn't ours but it was a worthy cause. They are raising money for the Royal Flying Doctors Service by riding their bikes from Darwin to Broome. They are all in their 50's or more so a job well done I say!
After they finished we headed for the showers & then into bed, again very tired. Tomorrow we are headed for Fitzroy Crossing.
And one final message to end the post for today, Happy Birthday to Aunty Mel & Kira!
