We have just spent our first night out of the van & camping in our tent! Kids were so excited to be going on an adventure without the caravan in tow!
We headed off early Tuesday morning, kids didn't even have breaky it was that early! We made the journey out the highway & turned off onto the Gibb River Road. Up until we hit the sign for El Questro it was a sealed road. This was the view as we reached the Gibb River Road.
Then this was the sign as we headed for El Questeo.
As we knew we weren't really able to tackle any of the walks with the kids (Trent is getting a little sore from having Flick on his shoulders all the time), we decided that our activity at El Questro would be Zebedee Springs. It was graded as an easy walk and there was a lovely reward for us all when we got there. The springs are at anywhere between 28-32 degrees, so beautiful & warm. We arrived there around 9amish, we all had somw breaky out of the back of the car & then headed for the springs.
After we spent time at the springs we got dried & dressed & walked back to the car. Trent decided to let the tyre pressure down for the rest of our journey, much easier on the corrigated roads! We drove to the El Questro township part of the station & had a look around and brought an icy pole to cool off.
Then we drove to the Chamberlin River where you can see up the gorge.
After this it was time to head back out of El Questro & we drove to Home Valley Station. At this point we haden't made any decisions about staying we were just going for a drive & a look. We always have our camping gear in the back of the car!
To get to HVS we had to do a river crossing, not deep at all. It was the Pentecost River that we crossed.
Not too long after the river crossing we arrived at HVS.
It was now after having a look around that we decided to stay. Kids jumping up & down with excitment! Trent & I looking at each other wondering if we could cope!
So we paid for our non powered site $35! Then we found a place to set up camp, right near a playground so thats where the kids went so we could make the tent happen for the first time! Awsome, 37 degree heat - what were we thinking!!! It was fine, we got it up with no problems & then blew up the air mattresses with our little blower that we plug into the car, un rolled the sleeping bags & we were good to go! Some late lunch was then calles for, cold chicken & salad for us & the kids had rolls. While we were having lunch we saw this go by:
After all that we spent the rest of our afternoon cooling off in the pool!
You can just make out the cattle yards in the background of this pic!! No bad smells at the pool though.
We had a nice swim & the kids had made friends with a few other kids too. We made our way to the showers & then headed over to the Dusty Bar for a pre dinner drink.
All these items were hanging over the edge of the wall at the bar, pretty cool!
We had a Very delicious dinner, everything was cooked to perfection! Yum, if you ever stay here we do recommend spoiling yourself like we did. There was also entertainment with a guy playing his Guitar. He played lots of cover songs & a few of his own that were really good too! It was one of those nights when I wished my Dad was with is on holidays because he would have LOVED it, even Trent agreed with me on that one! Not only the music & great food, but the whole aspect of the holiday! Dad - you must come up this way! You and Nannie would love it!
Anyway, it was time for bed & we all got tucked into our sleeping bags and some of us nodded off! Kids were exhausted so it didn't take much for them.
Morning came & Trent & I looked at each other & could see that not all that much sleep was had between the two of us, me - air bed wasn't blown up enough & a pillow would have been good!! Not exactly sure with Trent, but they should make sleeping bags bigger sizes! Or maybe he should have picked a bigger sized one! Phe said she was cold, but it doesn't help when you start off out because its too hot & then forget to get in before you are too cold! Well, all these little things to remember for next time I guess, shall keep you all posted on that when we camp again!
So up & packed up, some breaky, a shower & we were good to go! On the way out we went down to the river campsite just to see what we missed by not camping there. It was a good view but we felt we made the right decision by camping at the homestead.
Here are just a few more pics we took o the way out of HVS:
Next we were off to Wyndham. We drove in & around the town. We drove out to the port where they ship the cattle, to the port where the barge out the iron ore to the big ships & had a look at the jetty. At the jetty we saw a man catch a small sting ray, kids thought that was great. We also went to the lookout, that gave you a much better view of the town. And on the way out we stopped at the Big Crocodile!
The Jetty
The next few pics we tool from the lookout:
After the pool I got the washing in, showers all round & then it was off to the Supermarket to stock up again. Came back & un packed & cooked dinner. Ice cream while I cleanes up & then it was the toilet & teeth routine. Bed time & everyone is exhausted!
I will finish now too so I can get some much needed rest as well. We are looking at heading towards Halls Creek tomorrow, but I will keep you posted when I can.
